Patients live in well appointed apartments with other men or women who are also receiving treatment. The Community Housing patient receives intensive programming that combines individual and group counseling sessions with a strong educational component. It is especially effective for those with more severe problems. The Community Housing treatment model is a highly structured program with patients living in apartments, typically for three to four months. The patients benefiting from this intensive treatment model include those individuals with relatively long histories of drug addiction, frequent relapses, seriously impaired social functioning, families in crisis, criminal activities, and/or deteriorating physical health. Additionally, highly defended medical and other professionals may require the residential level of care to effectively address entrenched and advanced defenses that impede effective treatment from this insidious disease.
